The
Pastor's Corner
Do
you remember when the year 2000 seemed so far away? And now it's
the year 2010! To add meaning to this new year, let us always refer
to it as, "The Year of Our Lord 2010!" God was already
here, preparing and waiting for us. God is behind us, is with us
now, and is our future. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning
and the end. As we move through the New Year, we are going where
God already is. We will put ourselves in His hands and trust in
Him.
One
of the best ways of staying in touch with Him is trough His Word,
the Bible. During a recent trip to Hackman's Bible Book Store, I
was introduced to a resource called God
Sightings. This is a one-year voyage through the
Bible with the goal of "learning to experience God every day."
This key book is a unique New Living Bible entitled, The
One Year Bible. It has been prepared especially
for regular Bible readers who wish to read through the entire Bible
in one year. Instead of following a Bible reading chart and experiencing
the delay of turning from place to place, you will find the text
in sequence, ready for your quiet reading and meditation. This fulfills
the author's goal to make the Bible as accessible as possible for
people no matter what their background or walk of life.
Day
one begins on January 1. Readings from Genesis, Matthew, and Psalms
are there on day one for your reading. This same procedure is repeated
every day until December 31. When you reach this point, you will
have read the entire Bible in one year. What a wonderful goal for
the New Year. If you were to start reading on some other day, you
would still read the whole Bible in one year.
The
other part to this resource is the God
Sightings Companion Guide.
You are welcomed to the book with these and other words:
Once you've seen God at work, there's
no turning back... Fuel your faith...
God hasn't retired, you know... Cement your faith... Witness your
faith...
Dive in on your own or with a small group. Move at your own pace
or move through this book in one year. There are 52 sessions, but
there's no reason to rush. What matters isn't how fast you finish,
but what happens along the way. Get ready! You're on the journey
of a lifetime, and you'll never be the same. As you reflect on the
questions and comments in this journal, your faith will grow.
Small
groups will meet at Dubbs on Wednesdays at 10am and 7pm starting
January 6. Would you like to start a small group in your home, or
at a restaurant, or at Dubbs? I am eager to assist you. There is
a "Small Group Leader's Guide."
We have these materials on consignment and you may purchase them
in the Friendship Room after worship or by calling the church office.
Wow! What a way to start and to spend the
Year of Our Lord 2010!
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Carl
